Marriage
Family is the cornerstone of a successful society, and marriage is both a great blessing and a joyous occasion for Muslims.
In addition to facilitating the solemnisation of an Islamic marriage contract, known as the ‘Nikah’, Bashir Ahmed Masjid is a registered venue for civil ceremonies. This means you can have both your Islamic and civil ceremonies conducted here at the same time.
Civil Ceremony
You must contact your local register office and arrange an appointment to give notice of your marriage. The notice period is a minimum of 28 full days commencing from the date of your appointment.
Useful Contact numbers to book appointment for notice of marriage:

Nikah
You will need to complete the Nikah Booking Form, which you can either download or collect from one of the Imams. Please return the completed form to the Masjid, along with all required documents and the Nikah fee of £50, at least 7 days prior to the Nikah date.
We will issue a Nikah certificate to show you have been married in accordance with Islamic Law. One copy is given to the bridegroom, one to the bride, and one will be kept on record by the Masjid.
It is important you retain this certificate, as you may need it in future e.g. if you undertake Hajj or Umrah, the certificate can prove a Nikah exists between you, especially as surnames are usually different.
If you lose your certificate and require a replacement, please contact us. The fee to issue a replacement certificate is £10.
IMPORTANT
Under the Marriage and Civil Partnership Act 2022, the minimum age of marriage in the UK is 18.
Whilst you can have the Nikah completed at an alternative venue, such as a wedding hall, the civil ceremony can only be conducted at the Masjid.
